Small businesses

Duct and dryer vent care for offices, salons, restaurants, laundromats and gyms

A laundromat, a salon, a restaurant and an office each need something different from their ducts and vents. Wherever your system allows it, Blue Pelican Air & Attic starts with a camera look inside and shows you what we see.

We clean dryer vents and ducts when there is a reason, and we tell you plainly what we do not do, including kitchen exhaust hood cleaning.

Laundromat dryer banks compared with a home dryer

A laundromat is different, because the stakes and the venting are different. A bank of dryers often shares long vent runs, runs all day and puts many people in one room. In U.S. Fire Administration data for 2002 to 2004, the injury rate from dryer fires in nonresidential buildings was 78 percent higher than in residential ones, since even a small fire can affect more people. Lint buildup restricts airflow and is a highly flammable fuel source, and regular cleaning removes it.

Wherever the runs allow it, we look inside each one with a camera, show you the lint buildup and clean the runs we can reach, with the technician confirming the price first. Large shared headers, rooftop fans and industrial-size banks may need a walk-through, and we will tell you in writing what we can and cannot take on. Our focus is small commercial spaces, so ask before you assume. When we finish, we show you the result, with photos whenever possible.

Duct cleaning and chemical odors in a salon

Duct cleaning does not fix chemical odors by itself, and we would rather say so. Some keratin and straightening products can release formaldehyde, and OSHA says salon owners must provide adequate ventilation and test salon air during treatments. Cleaning ducts is not a substitute for that. EPA also says the most effective ways to improve indoor air are to reduce the pollutant source and to ventilate with clean outdoor air.

What we can do: wherever your system allows it, look inside the supply and return ducts with a camera, show you what we see, and remove the dust and debris when there is a reason. EPA notes that filters and air cleaners can reduce some pollutants but cannot remove all of them. For chemical services, ask a ventilation professional about local exhaust. We do not promise odor removal, and results vary with each space.

A restaurant's kitchen

Blue Pelican does not do kitchen exhaust hood cleaning. The hood, grease ducts and rooftop exhaust fan over cooking equipment are a separate specialty. Ask your insurer or local fire inspector who is qualified for that work and how often it is required. We would rather tell you that now than have you book the wrong service and lose a day.

What we can do for a restaurant is the rest of the building: the dining room and restroom supply and return ducts, the dryer vent for a linen or apron dryer, and the attic insulation above the space. Wherever the system allows it, a camera look inside the dining room ducts shows you the dust and debris in them. Everything starts with a free Whole-Home Air & Attic Check, and nothing is added without your approval.

What offices and gyms need from duct and vent care

Offices usually need to know who controls the system first. In a multi-tenant building the landlord often owns the ductwork and the rooftop unit, so ask before booking. In a suite with its own air handler, a camera look, wherever the system allows it, shows whether there is heavy dust, pest debris or damp spots near the coil. EPA's home guidance lists the same short set of reasons to clean ducts and does not recommend it as routine maintenance.

Gyms add towels and humidity. A towel dryer vent works hard all day and deserves the same attention as a laundromat's, on a smaller scale. We cannot promise results for odor or comfort. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday by appointment. A Sunday visit can suit a business that is quiet on weekends, and we do same-day visits when our schedule allows. Tell us how many dryers you run and where the vent exits.

Before you book for your business

  • Find out whether you or your landlord controls the HVAC system and the dryer vent.
  • Note the type of space: laundromat, salon, restaurant, office or gym.
  • For a restaurant, arrange kitchen exhaust hood cleaning separately, since Blue Pelican does not do it.
  • For a salon, ask a ventilation professional about exhaust for chemical services.
  • Note long vent runs, shared headers or rooftop outlets so we can plan the visit.
  • Choose a quiet hour, or ask for a Sunday appointment.
  • Ask to see what the camera shows, wherever the system allows it, and have the technician confirm the price before any work starts.

How we help

Dryer vent cleaning

Wherever the runs allow it, we look inside with a camera, then clean dryer vent runs in small commercial spaces, from laundromat banks to a gym's towel dryer, to remove the lint fire hazard. Clean vents also mean faster drying and lower energy use, and we show you the result, with photos whenever possible.

Air duct cleaning

Wherever your system allows it, we look inside office, salon, restaurant dining room and gym ducts with a camera and show you what we see, then clean only where there is a reason. We remove dust and debris from every duct and vent in your home with a HEPA-filtered negative-pressure vacuum, so nothing is blown into your space. Rotary brushes loosen the buildup, and the vacuum pulls it out of your building. We finish with a botanical product made with thyme oil, with no harsh chemicals.

UV air purification

A UV light helps keep the coil and drain pan cleaner, an extra layer of care, not a replacement for filters or duct cleaning.

Questions we hear most

Do you clean kitchen exhaust hoods?

No. Blue Pelican does not do kitchen exhaust hood cleaning, including the hood, grease ducts and rooftop exhaust fan over cooking equipment. That is a separate specialty. We can clean dining room ducts and a laundry dryer vent, and inspect the attic. Ask your insurer or fire inspector who is qualified for hood work.

Can you work outside business hours?

Tell us when your space is quiet and we will say honestly whether we can fit it. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday by appointment. Same-day visits when our schedule allows. We cannot promise a specific evening slot, so book early and name your constraints.

How do I know my laundromat's vents need cleaning?

Common signs are loads taking longer to dry, a laundry area that feels unusually hot and lint around the vent outlet. Because lint is a flammable fuel source, a camera look inside, wherever the run allows it, is the reliable way to know. We show you what we see, and the technician confirms the price before any work. Regular cleaning removes the lint fire hazard and keeps loads drying quickly.

Do you handle large commercial buildings?

Our focus is small commercial spaces such as offices, salons, restaurants, laundromats and gyms. If a job involves industrial-size dryer banks, large rooftop systems or a building you do not control, we will say so in writing before any work instead of taking on work outside what we do well.
